Il arrive le Mardi

13:49
Anonymous French male shall arrive on Tuesday! I shall have to stop getting dressed in the kitchen, and playing Girugamesh at full volume. I shall have to do the washing up far more often than I have been (which is still more often than usual) and I shall have to ensure my underwear remains in my bedroom at all times.

However, I'm kind of looking forward to meeting someone new, despite the struggle with French I will have to face even in my down time chez moi.

In other news, I wanted to dye my hair during the 4 hour break I get around lunch time, but I realised I don't have gloves with my bleach because I used it for the colour last time I dyed my hair. I also don't have a brush for my directions. I'm not filled with hope that Les Eyzies can provide me with what I need, but I hope it can as the thought of not doing it for another week drives me into the pits of despair. So, because of crazy shop opening times, I will be heading out at around 2:45pm to scout out whether I can gather what I need to dye my hair this evening instead. The 'supermarket' here opens from 8:30 until 12:30, and then from 15:00 until 19:00. Its a bit odd.

I've definitely come quite unprepared for living here - I kind of assumed I'd be able to buy things here to save on weight allowance on the plane, but it has resulted in me not having a full-size bathroom towel for two weeks, having to buy tea towels, suncream, contact lens solution and other things that probably would have been cheaper at home. I find myself coming short every so often - like now, when I want to dye my hair and I don't have the right equipment, despite having brought the dye from England.

It could be worse. I could have forgotten pyjamas. Or bras like at MCM expo D: ...

All in all, I'm settling in well and as always, the only setback is my own stupidity >:D

21:43

So Les Eyzies was nearly as useless as I thought it would be. The supermarket was fruitless, so I went to the chemist. I couldn't see anything. I have to Google translate the word for 'gloves' to ask if they had any plastic gloves to dye my hair with. The lady at the desk told me they only had big boxes. Oh god. My heart sunk a little. How big? 50 gloves. A box of 50 gloves. I asked how much it was, knowing that no matter the price, I would have to buy them... My hair wouldn't last until the next time I have a day off, especially with new people who are actually my age arriving in the next few days. 13€60... It could be worse... But that would literally be daylight robbery. I paid just over £10 for latex gloves. At least they will last me a little while... I still have 46 left.

I'm waiting for my hair colour to set in now before I wash it out. But I had to get Mickey round to clear the three resident beasts from hell out of my shower first (the ones with eight legs).

Time to wash my hair out. That's all from me for today!

To Périgueux!

So yesterday I went to Périgueux. It was such a pretty town and it was lovely to get out for a while. I made a vlog, especially for you. It's pretty long. Get some popcorn.

So yeah, I hope you didn't die of boredom watching that. If you did, can I have your money? I've spent quite a lot lately?

Catch you soon!

Booking Flights to Japan

So I did it. I just did it. I booked flights to Japan. I used STA Travel, as a few other students from my university have used them to book flights - they do student rates, etc. so it seemed like a safe bet. There's a couple of STA travel shops in Norwich, so it's a name I trust well enough. My actual flight has been booked with Emirates who will give me a 30kg weight allowance. I also get free meals and drinks during my flight. I also only have a 2 hour 45 min wait in Dubai (as apposed to an over 7 hour wait for £30 less - I made my choice!!). I'm flying from Heathrow Airport because it's easy to get to from my mum's house - I just need to take a bus - so that saves on train fares and struggling across the London Underground. The bus is 24 hours so it doesn't matter when I check in - though my flight is at 2:15pm so I don't have some kind of crazy check-in time. These are all important things to be considering when booking a flight.

In total, my flight came to £460.96. That's one way. It hurts, but it's a necessary evil. I had to buy a discount card in order to get the student rate flights which were a lot cheaper. It's an International Student Identity Card (ICIC) and it cost me £12 from STA. Apparently I'll need to send off proof of where I study, but I should have plenty of that laying around. I'm still worried I've done something wrong though. Oh well. Maybe I should have waited until my VISA was sorted, but I feel like leaving it too long is just asking for the prices to increase. I'm sure that I will be going to Japan, and I've done everything necessary to be going so far, so there's no need for me to worry. It's just very expensive. I had the same worry when I booked my flight to France, and that turned out fine, (even if the trains didn't, thank you SNFC strike...)

Anyway, that's all I have to say on my flight booking for now. If you have any questions about what I did, etc. feel free to ask me!

One Week In

So I recorded another Vlog this morning, which is now on YouTube.

So yeah... I've been here just over a week and have sort of settled. I'm sending out a couple of postcards today and upload some of the photos I've taken into an album. I'm looking forward to seeing what happens next :).

If you have anything you want me to post about in particular, leave me a little comment.
Thanks for keeping up with my incredibly boring blog ;)

Hello. Salut. こんにちは。

So I thought I'd set up a main blog page for... blogging. I think I'll be mostly doing Vlogs, rather than blog posts, but as there's small bits of information I want to put up, as well as pictures and stuff, especially when I look bad (most days, especially today) and don't want to be on video. So here it is. My Blog. I've decided to call it "What Language Should I Speak Again?" because I keep having problems with finding the right vocabulary from my three languages. I should only be speaking French at the moment, but during moments of particular laziness or just not thinking properly, I sometimes revert back to English. I also find that sometimes I can only come up with a word for something in Japanese, even though I know that I know it in French... I've just forgotten, and can only pull out the Japanese. These happened for the word bag/かばん/sac for a few days after I arrived...

So here's the first video I recorded... It's over a week old now, but I didn't manage to upload it until now, mostly because I tried to do it in a quality too high at first and it took too long, so I didn't bother re-saving it and re-attempting an upload until today.
It's my first ever vlog, so excuse everything. Especially the messy hair. I'd just arrived in France.
Anyway, Thanks for reading, more later :)
